Information Technology Project Management Special Interest Group (IT PM SIG)

Summary:

The IT Project Management Special Interest Group (IT PM SIG) was launched in April 2000 as a forum for project managers to participate in professional development and to share ideas with their peers. It is a joint initiative of the Australian Computer Society and the Project Management Institute. The IT PM SIG meets on the first Monday of each month with occasional exceptions due to public holidays. Sessions are held at Microsoft Innovation Centre, Level 2 Westpac House, 91 King William Street, Adelaide Sessions are open to members of either association, or to non-members with an interest in IT Project Management. Sessions are free, thanks to the support of our sponsors – see below for more information. The target participants are project managers in IT environments, and people of all levels of experience and interest are welcome. This is a forum where students of project management can meet practitioners with 20 years of experience.

The objectives of the IT PM SIG are: • Education and Professional Development • Peer Support • Professional Networking • Encouragement of Professional Project Management Practices

The group was announced at the IT Project Management presentation provided by Rob Thomsett in April 2000. Since then the group has consistently managed to attract 15 to 45 people to its monthly sessions. Each evening normally commences with informal drinks and nibbles, followed by a presentation from a practitioner or industry member, accompanied by audience discussions. Meetings commence with refreshments at 5:15pm and the presentation starts at 5:45pm. Talks usually last approx 45 minutes and are followed by questions, so the session is normally over by 7pm.

Suggestions for topics of interest or offers to present are always welcome. Be warned that there is usually a lead time of over a year (as at September 2011, I am taking bookings for presenters in 2013), however earlier opportunities can arise through cancellations. Further information on the IT Project Management Special Interest Group is available through Ian Goldfinch 0401 121 020 or goldfinch.ian@gmail.com

IT PM SIG Sponsorship The IT PM SIG is provided jointly by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) http://www.acs.org.au and the Project Management Institute Adelaide Chapter (PMI) http://www.pmichapters-australia.org.au/home.asp.

Thanks also to our sponsors for providing catering for the sessions since the SIG has grown over the years and we need external help to cater. • SMS Management & Technology (www.smsmt.com) • Tanner James (http://www.tannerjames.com.au/) • FPMS (www.fpms.com.au) sponsor a related professional development group, Business Continuity Management Information Exchange (BCMIE), which permits ACS and PMI members to attend BCMIE sessions at no cost.

Bookings for The IT PM SIG meetings can be made via ACS Events: [1]
