Info for Presenters
From ITArch
To give you some background to the group, we meet on the second Thursday of each month at 5:30pm, and have a presentation from a guest speaker from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. The venue is Excom Education, Ground Floor, 191 Pulteney Street, Adelaide (NW corner of Pulteney and Flinders). Our contact there is Allan English.
This is an excellent venue with first class presentation facilities. Its location is also very convenient as it is close enough for most people working in the city to walk to, but not too close that parking is difficult to find.
Excom Education have a projector and PC computer already set up and available for presenting purposes. The presenter only need bring in their presentation materials on a memory stick.
The IT Architecture SIG started in May 2006 and, to get an idea of the presentations given to date, please go to http://sa.acs.org.au/it_arch/index.php/Presentations_Past%2C_Present_and_Future.
We are trying to complement rather than compete against other groups such as AUSOUG and OAUG (both Oracle), AJUG (Java), ADNUG (.Net), etc, so are trying to keep the presentations one step above the technology. On the other hand however, there is absolutely no reason that a particular technology cannot be used to demonstrate IT Architectural concepts presented. Furthermore, if there is a technology that specifically assists IT Architects, for instance a toolset or methodology-based IDE, we would certainly be keen to have a presentation on that technology.
The aims of our group are to (a) provide a means of sharing IT Architecture information and experiences, (b) raise the profile and awareness of IT Architects so that they may be better utilised in IT projects, and (c) assist in building relationships between software vendors, service providers and end-user organisations at the IT Architecture level to facilitate better understanding and decision making.
We currently have over 150 people on our mailing list, made up of IT Architects, Project Managers and Software Developers. In the presentations to date we generally have around seventeen attendees with a maximum of just over forty.
For each presentation, the speaker sends me a bio and an abstract of the presentation. These are then sent in a notice of the presentation to the SIG members and also placed on the ACS website at
http://www.acs.org.au/index.cfm?action=event&temID=eventsall
The mood of the meetings is very relaxed, friendly and informal. The objective is to make the events attractive, to both the presenter and the attendees, in both content and atmosphere. It is a very undemanding, positive and receptive environment in which to give a presentation.
